The Aulesburg (also Aulisburg ) is an Outbound small hilltop castle on 463  m above sea level. NN about one kilometer west of Haina - Löhlbach in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district .

description

It was located about 100 meters above sea level on a rock spur of the Ebelsberg (514 m) above the Schweinfe in the forest and thus belonged to the type of spur castles . Only very few remains of the wall and two trenches have survived . It is assumed that there was originally a Carolingian castle at this point to control an old road passing by.

Mentioned for the first time in 1140, Count Poppo I von Reichenbach and his son-in-law Volkwin II von Schwalenberg handed over the complex, including the associated settlement, to the Benedictines for the purpose of founding a monastery on the "Aulisburg". Since this was slow, they transferred the property to the Cistercians of the Kamp Abbey in the Rhineland as early as 1140 . The monks tried in vain for a long time to put the monastery on a stable basis at this point. Around 1188 they gave up the castle because of the unfavorable living conditions, but also because of disputes over the bailiff's rights . Around 1214 they relocated to the milder valley basin on the Wohra on the southwest slope of the Kellerwald , where they established the Haina monastery with the Cistercians who had come from the Altenberg monastery near Cologne .
