The castle Braunsen is an Outbound castle in Braunsen , a district of Bad Arolsen in northern Hesse Waldeck-Frankenberg .
Geographical location
The village of Braunsen is located about 3.5 km southeast of the core town of Bad Arolsen and about 1.5 km southwest of the Twistesee reservoir, in a valley of the Twiste , framed by extensive forests . The exact location of the former castle is not known. It is believed that it was located near the church, because during construction work there were exposed old foundations that suggest the location of the castle.
history
The castle was first mentioned in 1223 as Brunharshem Castle . The builders are the Lords of Brunhardessen , who were presumably ministerials of the Corvey Monastery and followers of the Counts of Everstein .
In 1255 an Alberus de Brunhardessen was mentioned in a document. Around 1339 Bodo de Brunhardessen was Gograf in the court of Medrich . In 1380 Count Heinrich VI. von Waldeck , presumably after a feud , the Lords of Brunhardessen to keep the castle open to him at all times . With the death of Johann VI. von Brunhardessen , this noble family died out in the male line around 1451. The fiefs then fell back to the County of Waldeck.
When the castle was abandoned or perhaps destroyed and then fell into disrepair is not documented. There is no reliable information about their size or buildings.
