Bánovce nad Bebravou (German Banowitz , Hungarian Bán ) is a town in Slovakia on the Bebrava River .
history
The city was built on the site of an old settlement (later Bronze Age ). The first written mention of the city comes from the year 1234. In the Middle Ages it became an important center of handicraft production: shoemakers, joiners, blacksmiths, butchers, weavers, etc. At the beginning of the 17th century the first elementary school was opened.

The Roman Catholic Church dominates the city center of Bánovce nad Bebravou. From 1924 until the end of the war in 1945, Jozef Tiso was pastor of Banovce and also traveled every Sunday from Bratislava in a special railcar to the Sunday mass during his tenure as Prime Minister and later President of the First Slovak Republic .
Industry
In the fall of 2005 the company LKW Components sro was founded. At present (end of 2008) around 320 people are employed to manufacture parts for MAN . In the automotive sector, the Hella Group is also represented with a production site for rear lights in the city. Even Fritz Meier operates a plant for welding components and booths in Bánovce nad Bebravou. The German shirt and blouse manufacturer Eterna Mode GmbH , based in Passau , employs 706 people in the city.
