World Player of the Year 2016: Cristiano Ronaldo

The 61st Ballon d'Or ( French for Golden Ball ) was awarded again in 2016 by France Football magazine to award the World Footballer of the Year. The partnership with the world football association FIFA , which had led to the award of the prize under the name FIFA Ballon d'Or in the previous six years , was terminated in September 2016.

On October 24, 2016, the names of the 30 candidates for the world football election were published. The announcement of the winner and the award ceremony took place on December 12, 2016.

Voting mode

The prize was awarded by an international jury made up of specialist journalists.
