Bas van Erp (born July 2, 1979 in Boxtel , † April 3, 2016 in Liempde , Boxtel) was a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Bas van Erp started wheelchair tennis at the age of 12 and started in the quadriplegic class .

He participated in two Paralympic Games . In 2004 in Athens he reached the semi-finals in both singles and doubles. In the following bronze games he won against Nick Taylor in singles and in doubles with Monique de Beer against Sarah Hunter and Brian McPhate . In 2008 in Beijing he was eliminated from the singles in the quarterfinals. In doubles, he failed again in the semifinals and remained in the bronze medal against Dorrie Timmermans-van Hall against Peter Norfolk and Jamie Burdekin without a win.

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters , Bas van Erp reached the single final in the first edition for quadriplegics in 2004, which he lost to David Wagner in two sets. He also reached the final once in doubles, in 2008 with Johan Andersson . They won this against David Wagner and Nick Taylor in three sets.

In the world rankings, he achieved his best placings in singles with third place on May 25, 1999 and in doubles with fourth place on July 7, 2003. He completed his last season in 2011.
