The mountain railway corporation Kitzbühel (or Kitzbühel Lift Co.) is the biggest cable car company in Austria . The seat is in Kitzbühel . The ski area in the Kitzbühel Alps extends from Kirchberg in Tirol via Kitzbühel and the Kitzbühler Horn to St. Johann in Tirol and the Thurn Pass .

history

Franz Reisch performed the first documented skiing in 1892 on the Kitzbühler Horn. In 1924 a commission was given the task of creating a cable car project up to the Hahnenkamm . Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel was founded in 1928. A year later, the opening of the first Hahnenkamm lift could be celebrated.

In 1948, shortly after the Second World War, the world's first ski circus, a contiguous roundabout on skis, opened.

With a supply railway to the Kitzbühler Horn in 1951, the expansion of the ski operation to Kirchberg, Jochberg and Pass Thurn in 1959, the ski area almost reached its present size. In 1969 Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel merged with Berg- und Skilift GmbH and Kirchberger Bergbahnen AG.

Corporation

The main shareholder is the municipality of Kitzbühel with a 49.93% share. Other shareholders are Kirchberg (1.2%) and Jochberg . The remaining shares are in free float.

On average, the Kitzbüheler Bergbahnen employs 267 people. In addition, up to 500 people find work in the high season. The share capital of € 3,634,000 is fully paid up and consists of 100,000 shares.

In the 2008/2009 financial year, Bergbahn AG generated sales of € 37.135 million. During the 142 operating days in winter, a total of 16,636,372 people were transported (1,481,574 first-time entries). In summer, 503,114 people were transported on 159 operating days.

Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel has a 6.25% stake in Kitzbüheler Anzeiger GmbH. Insignificant holdings are held in the ARGE Partner im Schnee GesnbR and Kitzbüheler Alpen Marketing GesnbR.

Aquarena

The first mud bath was built in 1909 on the site of today's Kurhaus. Kur- und Moorbad AG Kitzbühel has been part of Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel since 1975. She runs the bathing center under the name Aquarena.

Ski Area

FIS ski races

The first ski race was held just two years after Franz Reisch first descended the Kitzbüheler Horn in 1895. In 1905 the first Tyrolean ski championships took place in Kitzbühel.

International Hahnenkamm race

The legendary international Hahnenkamm race has been held on the Streif since 1931 .

Touring and variant area Bichlalm ON SKI ROUTES

From 1948 to 2005, the area below the Stuck and Hochetzkogel was made accessible by the mountain railways. With the dismantling of the Bichlalm chairlift, the area was designated as a touring and variant area ON SKI ROUTES. Since the slopes are groomed during the day, ski tourers can also climb up and down at night. Instead of climbing up with skins , alternative skiers can be transported up the mountain with a piste machine . For safety reasons, individual sport is prohibited when being transported by snowcat. Ski and mountain guides must then lead the group.

Maintaining the Bichlalm lift or the new construction is very important to the people of Kitzbühel. In an out-of-court settlement in 2007, the mountain railways committed themselves to the heirs of the Bichlalm mountain inn to build a new lift and operate it for 35 years. The mountain railway would like to build an eight-person monocable gondola with a low transport capacity. An opening is planned for the 2012/13 season.

Resterhöhe / Jochberg

From Jochberg , via Rettenstein  (Kleiner, 2216  m above sea level ), Trattenbachalm , the Resterhöhe  ( 1894  m above sea level ) to the Pass Thurn , with 44 kilometers of slopes, the largest part of the ski area, but with significantly less Lift density. There is a cable car connection to Hollersbach im Pinzgau , Salzburgerland.

Snowmaking

The first snow-covered slope was the Streif race track in 1993. In the following years, snow-making was continuously expanded. Since 2007 the so-called "ski safari" has been completely artificially snowed.

To generate the so-called technical snow required for this, 10 reservoirs (Seidlalm I & II, Ehrenbachhöhe, Pengelstein, Usterkar, Wagstätt (60,000 m 3 ), Gaisberg and Resterkogel) with a total capacity of 725,000 m 3 were created. Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel is currently using 1116 snow guns to technically snow-cover 139 km of slopes.

The snow guns used are:

Slope preparation

Since 2010, snow depth measurements have been made using GPS when preparing the slopes . This allows the snow depth to be determined with an accuracy of up to 5 cm and the snow to be distributed more evenly on the slopes. In addition to the economic and tourist advantages that the slopes last longer and the quality is more consistent, there are also ecological advantages. Damage from chains, snow blades and skiers is reduced. Snow accumulations, which take a long time to thaw in spring and which can affect the vegetation, are no longer artificially created by the preparation. Targeted snowmaking can reduce water and energy consumption.

A total of 40 snow groomers from Pistenbully or Prinoth are available for preparation.

Ski route judgment

The facts of the civil lawsuit were an accident on February 5, 1987, in which a skier used the ski route to the Fleckhochalm tow lift. When entering the ski route, there was an additional sign to indicate leaving the secured ski area and the risks involved. Shortly before the lift station, due to a driving error, he drove against a familiar sign on the "edge" of the slope. The sign was visible from afar, but no longer secured by upholstery. In the accident, the plaintiff seriously injured his left leg. He sued for reimbursement of the transport and medical treatment costs as well as compensation for pain and suffering because the sign had been placed directly on the slope.

The Supreme Court (1Ob638 / 90) rejected the plaintiff's appeal. Because he is familiar with the use of the free ski area, which also includes ski routes, the skier himself has an increased duty of care. Ski routes have no edge markings, only central markings. A piste service with duties of care is not provided. Regularly, avalanche protection can only be assumed up to 5 m from the central marking.
