Berlin International Film Festival 1988
The Berlin International Film Festival 1988 took place from February 12 to 23. February 1988 instead.
The German musical film Line 1 by Reinhard Hauff opened the Berlinale. There were problems with the appointment of the jury president. Gert Fröbe had already given his approval, but had to cancel at short notice due to illness. Moritz de Hadeln then appointed the Italian film critic Guglielmo Biraghi as jury president.

Alec Guinness received an Honorary Golden Bear for his life's work .
