Bernau am Chiemsee (officially: Bernau a.Chiemsee ) is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim and a climatic health resort .

Geographical location

The place is in the Chiemgau on the southwestern bank of the Chiemsee . The place is affected by the federal autobahn 8 (A 8) Munich - Salzburg and the railway line Rosenheim - Salzburg . The Chiemgau Alps with the striking summit of the Kampenwand extend south of Bernau . To the east of the village lies an extensive moor landscape , in which large amounts of peat used to be extracted. An old peat station in the Kendlmühlfilzen still bears witness to this today. history

Until the church is planted

The community belonged to the Counts of Preysing , but was part of the Electorate of Bavaria . Bernau was part of the Hohenaschau rule, which was endowed with high jurisdiction . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

In Roman times , Bernau was a popular place to relax for soldiers because of its practical and healthy location . The floor plans of a villa rustica were found here; this is taken as an indication of a Roman bath at this location. A Roman tombstone was also found.

Emperor Maximilian I stayed in Bernau during a campaign against Marquartstein Castle in October 1504, which is noted on a board at the Gasthof zum alten Wirt.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, parts of the area of the dissolved municipality of Hittenkirchen were incorporated.

Coat of arms and flag

Blazon : "In silver over a blue three- hill covered with two continuous silver corrugated bars, a green house brand , consisting of a cross-headed four-foot shaft with a raised left central cross strut, four-foot crossed at the back."

The house brand belongs to the Seiser family who played an important role in the community since the end of the 15th century; the green color is freely chosen. The Dreiberg alludes to the coat of arms of the Aschauer, to whose rule Bernau formerly belonged, but also represents the Chiemgau mountains. The wave bars represent the location of the place on the Chiemsee. The coat of arms was designed by the engineer and politician Hugo Decker and approved by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior in 1956 .

The flag is striped in the colors green - white - blue.

Economy and Infrastructure

According to official statistics, there were 281 employees at the place of work in the manufacturing sector and 338 in trade and transport. In other economic sectors 590 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 1856 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were three companies in the manufacturing sector and eight in the construction sector. In addition, there were 57 farms with an agricultural area totaling 1394 ha; of which 1250 hectares were permanent green space.

Rail transport: Bernau am Chiemsee is on the Rosenheim – Salzburg line , which is part of the main Munich - Salzburg - Vienna line . This is where the double-track Bernau a Chiemsee stop, equipped with side platforms , is located , which was opened on May 7, 1860 along with the line. In the reception building, which was modernized in 2003, there is now a snack bar. The Chiemseering line, a bus connection with bicycle transport, runs in summer. Road traffic: In the north-west is the motorway junction 106 Bernau of the motorway A 8 , which is crossed here by the federal highway 305 .

In 2010 there were the following educational institutions:

Three kindergartens with 200 kindergarten places, which were attended by 171 children.
An elementary school with 10 teachers who taught 178 students in eight classes.

The school is a primary school with grades 1–4. These classes are run in two classes.

Sports

In Bernau, many sports facilities invite you to try out a wide variety of sports: Football, basketball, skating, tennis, paddleball, volleyball, boccia, beach volleyball, beach soccer, ballooning, mountain biking, downhill, skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports, hiking, climbing, among others , Nordic walking, ice skating, squash, windsurfing, surfing, sailing and other water sports are offered. Furthermore, shooting sports with air rifles and air pistols are practiced in three shooting clubs.

In Bernau there is one of the largest tennis halls in Germany and one of two courts in all of Germany for the new tennis sport paddleball . There is also a DAV climbing hall. At the lake there are places for beach volleyball and beach soccer. In the village and in the district of Hittenkirchen there is the possibility of balloon rides.

Due to its quiet location and the proximity to large places like Munich and Salzburg, Bernau is a popular place for tourists. Sights in Bernau are the Chiemsee, the Bonnschlössl , the Gasthof alter Wirt and the old peat station. There are also many typical Bavarian alpine pastures that are still managed.

There are information offices for tourists in the center of the village (Haus des Gastes) and in the Chiemseepark Bernau-Felden.
