Boris Rousson (born June 14, 1970 in Val-d'Or , Québec ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper and current junior coach at ETC Crimmitschau .
Career
Boris Rousson began his career in 1987 in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League , where he played two years each for Laval Titan and the Granby Bisons . He then moved to the American Hockey League for the Binghamton Rangers , the then farm team of the New York Rangers . There the undrafted goalkeeper played from 1991 to 1994, but was not used for the NHL team during that time . That's why he decided to move to Europe and joined the Finnish first division team Rauman Lukko . After just a few games, he became a top player and in October 1994 was player of the month in the SM-Liiga. In the same year he was also voted the best goalkeeper in the league and the All-Star Team.
After two more years in Finland, Rousson decided in 1997 to move to Sweden to Färjestad BK . However, after only one year he moved to Germany in the DEL. The Kölner Haie signed the goalkeeper, but he was in competition with Joseph Heiß and received only a few appearances from the start. That is why he joined the newly founded Munich Barons for the 1999/00 season . There he became German champion straight away and reached the final again a year later, which the Barons lost to Mannheim .
In 2001 he was elected to the DEL All-Star Team. When the license of the Barons to Hamburg was given, Rousson moved with and joined the Freezers . The Freezers could not build on the successes of their Munich predecessor, but Rousson was always one of the best goalkeepers in the league. In 2005 he was invited to the All-Star Game.
The native Canadian received German citizenship in August 2007 and has not taken a foreign license since then. For the 2007/08 season he moved to the Kassel Huskies in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga , where he was the necessary support for the return to the DEL. In the 2008/09 season, he played a few times in the DEL until mid-December, but ended his career during the season due to persistent knee problems.
For the 2009/10 season , Rousson returned as a goalkeeping coach to his former club in Hamburg. In the following season , the German-Canadian was appointed assistant coach to the newly signed Stéphane Richer , while Vincent Riendeau replaced him as goalkeeping coach. Between 2011 and 2016 he was the head of the junior division at the Hamburg DEL club and HSV Young Freezers .
