Brian Axel Hoyer (* 13. October 1985 in North Olmsted , Ohio ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He is currently under contract with the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).
Early years
Hoyer attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland . He then played college football for Michigan State University and was signed by the New England Patriots after the 2009 NFL Draft .
NFL
Hoyer made his regular season debut in a 59-0 win for the Patriots against the Tennessee Titans in week six of the 2009 season. He scored a run touchdown and a quarterback rating of 86.4. For the 2012 season he moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers , but was only used as a replacement quarterback here, as with the Patriots. He was released by the Steelers in early December and signed directly by the Arizona Cardinals .
On May 2, 2013, he signed a two-year contract with his home club, the Cleveland Browns . He got off to a promising start with the Browns in 2013 until he was stopped by a cruciate ligament tear, and in 2014 he established himself as a starting quarterback . Against the Carolina Panthers underwent him a curious turn when he one from their own 19-yard line interception threw, but the ball is intercepted at the 29-yard line of the Panthers zurückgefumblet was. In 2015 he joined the Houston Texans . There he first prevailed against Ryan Mallett in the pre-season, fighting for the post of starting quarterback . Mallett was injured on Matchday 5 and Hoyer took over for the remainder of the season, leading the Texans back into the play-offs for the first time since 2012. There he threw four interceptions in the AFC Wildcard Game against the Kansas City Chiefs and was thus significantly involved in the 0:30 defeat. On April 17, 2016, he was released by the Texans after Brock Osweiler had previously been signed by the Denver Broncos .
On April 30, 2016, he signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears .
In March 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers . After the 49ers had lost all of the first eight regular season games, Hoyer was released on October 30, 2017 in favor of a commitment from Jimmy Garoppolo . On November 1, 2017, he signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots .
On August 31, he was released from the New England Patriots and replaced by the rookie Jarrett Stidham as a replacement quarterback. He then signed a three-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on September 2 . There he was used as a backup for Jacoby Brissett in four games, in week 10 he was a starter. He was fired at the end of the season after the Colts signed Philip Rivers . The Patriots then brought Hoyer back to Tampa Bay after the departure of Tom Brady .
