The company Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG is a shipping company of the Briese Group in the East Frisian city ​​of Leer . history

The shipping company was founded in 1984 by Captain Roelf Briese. The first series of new buildings were planned as early as the late 1980s. The first expansions, for example into the People's Republic of China , took place in the early 1990s. Thanks to the subsidiary China Supervision, based in Tianjin, China, near the Xingang Shipyard , the certification and construction supervision of own and third-party new buildings can now be done with little effort. In the meantime (2011) there are branches in 20 countries on six continents.

The Briese Schiffahrt fleet currently (2011) consists of over 120 multi-purpose ships, container ships and bulkers. According to the company's own information, the average age of the ships due to new builds and ship sales is less than five years. The carrying capacity of the ships is between 2,500 and 37,300 t, which means that the lower and middle range is more likely to be covered in the area of ​​container and bulk cargo than current ocean-going vessels. In the area of ​​multi-purpose and heavy goods transport, the middle to upper area is covered. Most freighters are with tween decks (Tweendecks) and own cranes equipped (700 t) and with ice classes certified (to Swedish / Finnish 1A / E3) and thus after shipping details versatile. Five container ships were built between 2004 and 2008 and are currently on time charter with various large shipping companies such as Maersk Line , CMA CGM or MSC . The new series of eight ships in the BBC Everest class , which was built between 2010 and 2012, has been chartered to BBC Chartering on a long-term basis and will be used there in the BBC Americana Line , a project heavy lift line between the Mediterranean and South America. A large part of the tonnage is made up of the river ships of the BBC-Ems class , which operate worldwide. Briese has taken over some of the ships from the bankrupt Beluga Shipping , including some BBC Campana class ships . In 2010, the shipping company has two Handysize - Bulker the BBC Neptune class with a carrying capacity of 37,300 dwt in service provided.

After the bankruptcy of the Beluga shipping company , Briese took over the Beluga SkySails , which is equipped with a 320 m² towing kite. The kite 'achieves' a maximum of 2000 kW. The 132 meter long ship with almost 10,000  dwt is the first commercially used ship with this technology. Funds

The company offers various investment options, including investments in so-called one-ship companies as well as in complete fleet funds. For example, the so-called Chance Fund (Sixth Briese Tonnage Tax Return Fund) was voted Fund of the Year in 2011 by a well-known website. The average return on this fund was just under 28%.

The Oltmann Group's Bargain Fund I caused a sensation when it sold two container ships from the Briese shipping company for 19 million euros each. A year earlier, the ships were bought for almost 14 million euros. According to the shipping company and the issuing house, the return for the shareholders was 79% after taxes.

Employees
