The Brisbane International 2016 was a tennis tournament , which from 3 to 10 January 2016 in Brisbane took place. It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on hard courts. The same week the Qatar ExxonMobil Open was played in Doha and the Aircel Chennai Open in Chennai , which, like the Brisbane International, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category . The women's tournament of the WTA Tour 2016 also took place in Brisbane .

Defending champion in the singles was Roger Federer . Jamie Murray and John Peers won the last event in doubles .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each received a bye in the first round.

The qualification took place on January 3rd and 4th, 2016. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
