John Peers (born July 25, 1988 in Melbourne ) is an Australian tennis player .
Career
In 2011 and 2012 John Peers played mainly on the ITF Future Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour in doubles with various partners. With his compatriot John-Patrick Smith , he has already won five titles on the Challenger Tour and three more with other partners. Since the 2013 season he has also been a regular participant in ATP World Tour tournaments . He played at tournaments in Brisbane, the Australian Open and Montpellier, among others. At the Australian Open , he made it to the second round with his partner after they defeated the number eight duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the first round .
On April 14, 2013 he won his first World Tour tournament in Houston together with Jamie Murray . In the final they defeated the world number one Bob and Mike Bryan . In July 2013, the second tournament victory in this category followed, also alongside Jamie Murray. Together they won the tournament in Gstaad against the Spanish duo Pablo Andújar and Guillermo García-López . In September 2013, the third joint title followed in Thailand , and one month later they reached the final in Tokyo . In the 2014 season, John Peers won the tournament in Munich with Jamie Murray and was also in the finals at Queen's Club , in Winston-Salem and Kuala Lumpur . In 2015, he and Murray started the season with a tournament victory in Brisbane . In Wimbledon , the two reached their first Grand Slam final and repeated this success at the US Open . In both finals, however, they did not win a set.
For season 2016 Murray and Peers parted; Henri Kontinen became the new double partner . With Kontinen, he won a total of five titles in 2016, including the ATP World Tour Finals and the Paris Masters , and reached another final. At the beginning of 2017, the two celebrated their first Grand Slam title in doubles by winning the Australian Open . On April 3, he reached second place, his highest position in the double world rankings .
In 2016 John Peers made his debut for the Australian Davis Cup team .
