With Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka , two Swiss were top placed for the first time in an ATP tournament. Both were eliminated early, however; Federer in the second round against Daniel Brands and Wawrinka in the quarterfinals against Feliciano López . Both complained of back pain in their games, with Wawrinka even having to give up his game against López in the decisive set.
