The British general election in 1922 was held on 15 November 1922, to the Members of the House of Commons to determine new (House of Commons). It was the first choice after 26 of Ireland's 32 counties created the Irish Free State . The Conservative Party under Andrew Bonar Law received an absolute majority of the seats; the turnout was 73.0%, 15.8 percentage points more than in the 1918 election .

prehistory

The coalition government in office since 1916, Lloyd George , fell apart in October 1922 after an uprising by the conservative backbenchers ( Carlton Club meeting on October 19, 1922 ) and the conservative party leader Bonar Law was entrusted with forming a government. Bonar Law immediately called new elections to win a majority for his party.

Electoral system and parties

Voting was based on the majority voting system, there was no threshold clause . From the Liberal Party , the wing, which previously formed with the Conservatives, the coalition government and had David Lloyd George introduced the Prime Minister, as a National Liberal Party split for the first time took on its own in an election.
