Bruno Francisci

Bruno Francisci (* in Rome ; † August 31, 1989 there ) was an Italian automobile and motorcycle racing driver .

Francisci was considered a very talented and robust racing driver. His driving style was rough but effective. The Italian always meticulously prepared for his races, which he often started cautiously in order to improve strongly in the second half of the race when his opponents were exhausted.

Career

Bruno Francisci began his motorsport career during the Second World War . In 1940 he won the 250cc race at the XVIII on a Moto Guzzi . Targa Florio Motociclistica , which was held on the Circuito di Parco della Favorita in the Parco della Favorita in Palermo .

Even after the war, the Italian started again on a Moto Guzzi. At the Grand Prix of Switzerland in 1947, which on the Circuit des Nations in Geneva took place and this year at the same time running the motorcycle championship was Francisci won from his fellow Ferdinando Balzarotti and Fergus Anderson the 250cc race and crowned himself with it for 250 -cm³ European Champion 1947 .

From 1949 , Bruno Francisci also started sporadically in the newly created motorcycle world championship . Until 1952 he took part a total of four times in the 250 cc race for the Grand Prix of Nations in Monza . He achieved his best placement in 1950 when he was third on a Benelli behind compatriot Dario Ambrosini and Briton Fergus Anderson.

Between 1951 and 1955 Francisci won three times in different classes the endurance race Milano – Taranto , which led over about 1300 kilometers.

Francisci later switched to motor racing . He drove smaller sports cars designed by Berardo Taraschi until the late 1960s .

Bruno Francisci died on 31 August 1989 in Policlinico - hospital in his hometown of Rome after a long illness.

Trivia

After his victory at Milano – Taranto in 1955, Bruno Francisci drove to the hotel to get his suit for the award ceremony. When he came back, runner-up Mario Preta hadn't even crossed the finish line. Preta came in later, over an hour behind.
