Chester William Taylor (born July 16, 1883 in Verona , Lee County , Mississippi , † July 17, 1931 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chester Taylor was the son of Congressman Samuel M. Taylor . In 1887 he and his parents moved from Mississippi to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. There he attended public schools. He later studied law at Georgetown University in Washington . Like his father, Chester Taylor was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1908 and 1910 he served as the assistant chief of the Arkansas State Audit Office. In 1911 he was Deputy Secretary of State in Arkansas, then Deputy Treasurer until 1912) of the state. From 1913 to 1921 he worked as his father's secretary, who was sitting in the US Congress for the sixth district of Arkansas at that time .

After the death of his father, Chester Taylor was elected his successor in Congress when the by-election was due. He exercised this mandate between October 25, 1921 and March 3, 1923. In the regular congressional elections of 1922, he decided not to run again. The seat then went to Lewis E. Sawyer . After retiring from Congress, Taylor worked in the insurance business at Pine Bluff. He later worked for the Arkansas State Department of the Environment in Little Rock . He died on July 17, 1931, the day after his 48th birthday, in Pine Bluff, and was buried there.
