Christian Schramm (* 3. May 1952 in Burgstädt ) is a former local politician of the CDU and Mayor of Bautzen (1990-2015). From 2003 to 2015 he was President and Vice-President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities .

Life

In 1968 Schramm graduated from the Polytechnic High School and began an apprenticeship as a lathe operator . 1970 to 1974 he studied religious education at the Protestant University of Moritzburg . From 1974 Schramm worked as a parish deacon in Bautzen - since 1988 as a district catechist of the Bautzen parish for two years .

Christian Schramm is married and has three children.

Political activity

Schramm, who was non-party before the fall of the Wall and who later worked as a co-founder of the New Forum in Bautzen, was also a member of a group for the democratic processing of the events surrounding the MfS detention center Bautzen II (today a memorial).

In 1990 he finally joined the CDU . In the same year he was elected mayor of the city of Bautzen . Since 1995, when Bautzen was renamed a major district town, his title was Lord Mayor. In the mayoral elections on June 8, 2008, he received 66.7% of the vote. For the elections on June 7, 2015, he did not run again after a 25-year term in office. Alexander Ahrens (independent) was elected as his successor . His term of office ended on July 30, 2015.

During his term of office, among other things, the renovation of the old town of Bautzen and the construction of the Kornmarkt-Center , a shopping center on the historic Kornmarkt in the city ​​center .

On September 18, 2019, Schramm was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Bautzen.
