The Clásica San Sebastián 2015 was the 35th edition of this bike race and took place on August 1st, 2015. The race was held on a Saturday six days after the end of the Tour de France . The one-day race was part of the UCI WorldTour 2015 and within this the 19th of 28 races. The total distance of the race was 219 kilometers. The British Adam Yates from the Australian team Orica GreenEdge won ahead of the Belgian Philippe Gilbert from the US team BMC and the Spaniard Alejandro Valverde from the Spanish team Movistar .
A few kilometers from the finish, the Belgian Greg Van Avermaet , who had been the leader until then, was hit by an escort motorcycle. He crashed badly and couldn't finish the race. Van Avermaets racing team BMC then considered legal action against the UCI World Cycling Association . At first, Yates did not notice this fall and, as he crossed the finish line, believed he had finished second behind Van Avermaet.
For Adam Yates it was the first win at Clásica San Sebastián. In addition, he was the very first Briton to win the race.
