The Col de Jaman ( 1512  m ) is an alpine pass in Switzerland between the cantons of Vaud and Friborg .

geography

It leads from the Lake Geneva region from the towns of Les Avants and Jor above Montreux to the Gruyères region . The top of the pass is on the main European watershed between the catchment areas of the Rhine (on the Saane ) and the Rhone . The pass crossing itself belongs entirely to the canton of Vaud, the canton border with Friborg is around a kilometer east at an altitude of 1,300 meters.

To the south of the pass is the Dent de Jaman mountain peak ( 1875  m ) belonging to the Vaudois Pre-Alps , to the north of which is the Cape au Moine as part of the Freiburg Pre-Alps .

traffic

In the past, the mule track over the pass was used to transport Gruyère cheese from Intyamon and the Pays-d'Enhaut to the cities and ports on Lake Geneva. The transports needed about 10 hours for the route from Montbovon to Vevey.

The Col de Jaman is not winter-safe, the drivable, black-paved road leads on the west side to the top of the pass. The drivable road on the east side, which has not been blackened, is prohibited from driving motor vehicles.

The Montreux – Lenk railway in Simmental crosses the mountain range about 300 meters below the pass in the 2424 meter long Jaman tunnel between Les Avants and Les Cases .

On the crossing there is a mountain restaurant and the chalet - style Cabane de Jaman mountain hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club section Jaman in Vevey .

Footpaths lead from the health resort of Caux to the pass.
