The Communauté métropolitaine de Québec (CMQ) is a regional special-purpose association in the Canadian province of Québec , consisting of municipalities in the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial capital Québec . It was created on January 1, 2002 by a law passed by the National Assembly of Québec . The CMQ comprises 28 municipalities with a total of 765,706 inhabitants (as of 2011), which corresponds to around a tenth of the province's population.
