Craig Streu (born June 5, 1968 in Biggar , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian - German former ice hockey player and current coach. Since June 2019 he has been an assistant trainer at the Eisbären Berlin .
During his playing career, Streu was mostly active in various clubs in Germany. A picture showing him and his REV Bremerhaven jersey was hung in 2008 under the roof of the REV Bremerhaven ice rink; his shirt number 24 has not been given by the club since then.
Player career
The Canadian attacker began his career in 1989 on the ice hockey team of the University of Manitoba , where he was active for three years and finished the 1991/92 season with 89 points from 41 games. He then moved to the Dutch club IJshockey Club Utrecht . There he received 20 missions in the Eredivisie , the top division in the country, and was able to achieve 51 points. The following year he signed at the beginning of the season at Grefrather EV , with whom he entered the Oberliga Nord and contributed 14 points in six games. That same season he left the club and signed at the Regional gambling ERSC Amberg . In the following three years he was very successful for Amberg and scored 315 points in 103 games. For the 1996/97 season he was signed by the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League , in which, however, he remained far below the previous point quota and only achieved five points in 39 games. A year later the Panthers gave it to the Iserlohner EC . There he managed to build on his achievements in Amberg in terms of points.
For the 1999/2000 season he joined the EHC Neuwied and completed 22 games for the team, in which he scored 28 points. In the same season he agreed on a collaboration with REV Bremerhaven and then went on the ice for his new employer. In nine seasons at REV Bremerhaven, he was able to win several titles with the club. In 2000 and 2004 he won the league championship with the team and in 2002 he was champions of the 2nd Bundesliga with Bremerhaven.
International
For the German national team , Streu took part in the 1999 B World Cup. He was on the ice in all seven games and scored two goals and provided an assist.
Coaching career
After the end of his active career, Streu began to work as head coach and was the first to take over the fate of the gang at his long-term club REV Bremerhaven , which he led in the 2008/09 season to participate in the play-offs of the 2nd Bundesliga . At the beginning of May 2009 he signed a contract with the Hanover Indians . After eight games and four points, he was released in October 2009. From 2011 to April 2015 he worked as a trainer at the Okanagan Hockey Academy Europe in Sankt Pölten .
From May 2015 to 2016 he trained the EHC Neuwied . From July 2016 he was Serge Aubin's assistant trainer at Vienna Capitals from the EBEL . At the end of December 2017, the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League announced the signing of Aubin and Streu starting with the 2018/19 season. In mid-January 2019, Aubin and Streu were dismissed in Zurich because, according to the club's management, the team was making "no sustainable progress". Streu has been Aubin's assistant trainer at Eisbären Berlin since June 2019 .
