Crittenden County was formed on October 22, 1825 as the 12th County of Arkansas from parts of Phillips County. It was named after Robert Crittenden (1797-1834), an incumbent governor of the Arkansas Territory (1828-1829).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census , Crittenden County had 50,902 people in 18,717 households. The population density was 32.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.67 people in each of the 18,717 households.
The racial the population was composed of 47.0 percent white, 50.9 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.7 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.1 percent of the population.
28.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 60.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 11.1 percent were 65 years or older. 52.5 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 33,716 USD . The per capita income was $ 18,241. 27.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
