GDR soccer league 1954/55
The fifth season of the GDR league , the second division in GDR football , was played in 1954/55 . For the first time it was played in three seasons, but the league was already reduced to one season for the next season. After the end of the season, the schedule for all GDR soccer leagues was changed to the calendar year rhythm, and a simple transition round was held in autumn 1955 to align. In this, the 2nd GDR League was already held as the new third division.
Season course
The GDR League 1954/55 took place with 42 teams, each of which was divided into 14 teams on three relays. In addition to the three league relegators Lok Stendal , Motor Dessau and Stahl Thale , 17 newcomers were there because of the increase to three seasons. For the first time, the football sections of newly founded sports clubs also took part in the league. The SC Motor Jena team, taken over from BSG Motor, started in Jena at the beginning of the season . In Leipzig, two DHfK teams were registered for the league and divided between seasons II and III. Together with the 15 district champions, they topped up the squadrons. After the associated sports club SC DHfK Leipzig was founded at the beginning of September 1954, the teams initially run as Wissenschaft Leipzig played under this club name. The team SC DHfK II, however, played their games in Bitterfeld . At the beginning of the second half of the season, however, the teams of the SC DHfK were withdrawn, and the SG Dynamo Dresden and the SC KVP Vorwärts Leipzig took their place . During the season in December 1954, the BSG in Weißenfels became the sports club of the sports association progress. In February 1955, the focus-BSG in Oberschöneweide merged with the newly founded SC Motor Berlin . In the same month, the previous HSG Wissenschaft Halle also received the status of a sports club. The three season winners SC Progress Weißenfels , BSG Lok Stendal and BSG Motor Dessau determined the two promoted progress Weißenfels and Lok Stendal in a double round. Because of the subsequent reduction to one season, only twelve teams qualified for the next season of the I. GDR League. 22 teams were integrated into the new II. GDR League, and the six teams in 13th and 14th place had to relegate to the fourth-class district league.
