DJ Kitsune (born July 31, 1979 in Ilmenau ; real name: Philipp Senkpiel ) is a German DJ , music producer , founder and operator of an independent label and publisher . He comes from the Frankfurt hip-hop scene and is best known for his radio broadcasts, mix tapes, DJ gigs and tours with rappers like Azad , Curse , Jonesmann and Pal One . In 2006, DJ Kitsune won the “Best National DJ 2006” award from the German hip-hop website hiphop.de and was nominated for the “Best International Mixtape DJ” award at the Justo's Mixtape Awards in New York in the same year. Today, DJ Kitsune is considered one of the figureheads of German hip-hop DJs and a long-term sponsor of musicians and composers. The online magazine Jetzt.de of the Süddeutsche Zeitung describes DJ Kitsune as a contender for the title “Hardest Working Men in German HipHop Business”.

Life

DJ Kitsune began his DJ career with first mix tapes and mixed radio broadcasts in 1997 and 1998. Significantly inspired and influenced by the Frankfurt scene greats such as DJ CALIPH, Roey Marquis II. And DJ Chubby B., DJ Kitsune specialized in hip- Hop, RnB and Reggae music and played his first club gigs in legendary Frankfurt discos such as Funkadelic, Nightlife and Cooky's. Kitsune became known to a wide audience through residencies at Opium (Frankfurt), 50 Grad (Mainz), O25 (Frankfurt) and, from 2004, Unity (Frankfurt). At the same time, DJ Kitsune has been on the radio every week since 1999. At the side of Chubby B. and BA Kitsune stood at the turntables every Monday on the show "Dope Beats" on Hr XXL . Kitsune was later to be heard as a DJ on Shade45 in the USA and JAM FM in Germany.

Kitsune's career as a live DJ for German rap stars began with an engagement by the Frankfurt artist Jonesmann in 2003. When Jonesmann was asked to support Azad's "Faust Des Nordwestens-Tour", Kitsune was initially only from Jonesmann, shortly afterwards but also hired by Azad as the sole DJ for the whole tour. Directly after these shows, Kitsune also took over the post of live DJ for all other Azad shows for the next 3 years, including the “Auf Die Harte Tour”, which Azad co-headlined with Bushido . After the separation from Azad and the cooperation with Bozz Music , Kitsune (in co-direction with Kool DJ GQ) played a club tour with Curse from 2008, and a few other shows, such as B. followed on the Splash .

In the course of his career, Kitsune has also been on stage as a DJ for Rasul ( Square One ), Pal One , Kool Savas , Cappadonna , Samy Deluxe , Bushido, Jeyz , Jamil & Jamal, Kurz und Bündig, Mars Und Sti, Warheit and Lunafrow, among others . Kitsune was awarded the title “Mixtape of the month” by the German hip-hop magazine Juice 8 times in his career for his numerous mixtapes and in 2006 for the title “Best International Mixtape DJ” at the renowned Justo's Mixtape Awards in New York nominated. This makes DJ Kitsune one of the most successful German mixtape DJs in the hip-hop scene. At the same time, DJ Kitsune was invited as the only German representative to join the Shadyville DJs, an association of influential DJs led by 50 Cents DJ Whoo Kid , to which u. a. also include DJ Cut Killer and Tim Westwood. As part of that calling, DJ Kitsune also got slots for his own shows on Shade45, Eminem's radio station under the umbrella of Sirius XM Radio in the US & Canada. DJ Kitsune is considered one of the most outstanding German club DJs and regularly plays shows all over Europe and the USA. His live shows are particularly characterized by his fast, New York-inspired style and the mix of brand new songs and many classics.

Starting lineup

The management agency founded by DJ Kitsune in 1999 with an affiliated label is known under the name Starting Lineup. Originally intended as a booking agency for the befriended DJs Chubby B., CALIPH, Biz, Giu and Kitsune, Starting Lineup quickly developed into its own label, which has had numerous releases on vinyl, CD, DVD and music cassette since 2001. Artists like Jonesmann, Azad, Curse, Rasul, Pal One, DJ Kitsune, Statik Selektah, Xavier Naidoo (to name just a few) have all contributed to the catalog of the Starting Lineup label with guest appearances, their own songs or entire albums. While the label initially brought more vinyl records onto the market, the last few albums have only appeared on CD or as a digital release. At the same time, Starting Lineup had always taken care of the management and marketing of friends and label artists. This included at times (and in some cases continuously) Jonesmann , Pal One, Rasul, Sti, Crada , Hila Bronstein , DJ Kitsune, Kaled Ibrahim and Nicodemus. DJ Kitsune is a founding member and managing director (together with Markus N. Ernst) of Starting Lineup.

SL AllStars

In 2008 the publishing edition "SL AllStars" was founded. "SL AllStars" is based in the Hamburg publishing house AMV Talpa and publishes the copywriters and composers Crada, DJ Kitsune, Markus N. Ernst and Hila Bronstein . The titles published by “Edition SL AllStars” include “Fireworks” by Drake feat. Alicia Keys (2010 Universal Music), "Hyyerr" by Kid Cudi feat. Chip Tha Ripper (2009 Universal Music), "Get That Paper" by D-Block feat. Sheek Louch, Styles P., Jadakiss & SI (2009 D-Block / E1 Entertainment) and many other pieces of music produced by Crada.

Radio shows

From the first days of his career, DJ Kitsune was active on the radio. While the first mixes were still on the Frankfurt local station Radio X in 1998 , he soon became Roey Marquis II's successor as the DJ of the weekly hip-hop show "Dope Beats" on Hr XXL , the then youth wave of the Hessian broadcasting company . In the course of the termination of hrXXL, DJ Kitsune came under the radio and TV format “ Clubnight ” on the successor broadcaster You FM and did regular broadcasts there for another three years. As part of his calling in the Shadyville DJs association, DJ Kitsune played regular broadcasts on Eminem's Shade 45 radio station on Sirius XM Radio from 2006 to 2008 . Since summer 2009 DJ Kitsune can be heard on Jam FM on Wednesdays from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
