Dan Olof Söderström (born April 5, 1948 in Horndal ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

Dan Söderström began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Horndals IF , for whose senior team he was active from 1963 to 1966 in Division 3 , which was then still third . He then moved to Leksands IF from Division 1 , the top Swedish division. With Leksand he won the Swedish championship in 1969, 1973, 1974 and 1975 . From the 1975/76 season , the winger took part with Leksand in the newly founded Elitserien . In 1977 and 1978 he was the best template provider. In 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1980 he was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. Following the 1982/83 season , he ended his active career at the age of 35.

In the 1983/84 season , Söderström looked after as head coach Falu IF from Division 1, which was second class at the time. He spent the following two years in the same function at his parent club Leksands IF from the Elitserien. In the 1990/91 season, the Swede was head coach at the fourth division club Björbo IF. Between 1991 and 2001 he was employed as a junior coach at Leksands IF, whose U18 and U20 juniors he mostly looked after.

International

For Sweden Söderström took part in the 1973 , 1974 , 1975 , 1976 and 1981 world championships. He was also in his country's squad for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . At the 1974, 1975 and 1976 World Championships and at the 1980 Winter Olympics, he and his team won the bronze medal and the silver medal at the 1981 World Championships.

Dan Söderström comes from a family who loved ice hockey. His son Johan Söderström , his brother Lars Söderström , his cousin Runar Söderström and his nephew Niklas Söderström were also professional ice hockey players.
