David R. Evans

David Reid Evans (born February 20, 1769 in Westminster , England , † March 8, 1843 in Winnsboro , South Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1784 David Evans immigrated to the United States with a father. They settled in South Carolina, where Evans attended Mount Zion College . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1796, he began to work in his new profession in Winnsboro.

Evans was a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by President Thomas Jefferson . Between 1802 and 1805 he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives . From 1804 to 1811 he also worked as a public prosecutor. In the 1812 congressional election, Evans was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of South Carolina , where he succeeded Richard Winn on March 4, 1813 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1814, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1815 , which was determined by the events of the British-American War .

After serving in the House of Representatives, Evans ran a plantation that he had since acquired. Between 1818 and 1826 he was a member of the South Carolina Senate . David Evans was also the first President of the Fairfield County's Bible Society . He died in Winnsboro on March 8, 1843.
