Paul Grier McCorkle (born December 19, 1863 in York , York County , South Carolina , † June 2, 1934 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) was an American politician . In 1917 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Paul McCorkle attended public schools in his home country including the King Mountain Military School . He then worked as an employee. He later worked in the cotton business in Lancaster and Chester . After returning to York, he continued to work in this industry.

McCorkle was a member of the Democratic Party . After the death of Congressman David E. Finley , he was elected in the fifth constituency of South Carolina as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took up his new mandate on February 21, 1917. By March 3 of the same year, he ended the current legislative period of his predecessor. Since he had not run in the regular congressional elections of 1916, he had to give up his mandate after less than a month in Congress .

After his brief stint in the House of Representatives, McCorkle returned to the cotton business. Since 1920 he was a coroner in York County. Paul McCorkle died in Knoxville on June 2, 1934 and was buried in York.
