Career

youth

In his childhood, Villa often played with children older and bigger than him. At the age of nine he broke his thighbone in a game after an attack by a major opponent. He was taken to the Valle del Nalon Hospital, 20 kilometers away, where the attending physician Dionisio Cuetos initially even thought of an amputation. Ultimately, Villa was able to return home after three hours of surgery and a month and a half in hospital. This injury could have prevented his professional career, but he was able to play football again after just three months.

As a child, Villa admired the Spanish footballer Luis Enrique . In his honor he wore the number 21 in the Spanish national team for a while. In the later course of his national team career he had the shirt number 7. In his club Atletico Madrid he ran with the number 9 on the back.

Start of career

Villa in August 2005

Villa began his football career in 1991 with UP Langreo . In 1999 he signed his first professional contract with Sporting Gijón and first played in the club's second team; from 2000, however, he was brought into the 1st team. Villa describes himself as a great admirer of Juanele and Luis Enrique , two strikers from his Asturian homeland and from Sporting Gijón, the club where he himself learned to play football.

In 2003 he moved to the Primera División for Real Saragossa , where he lost his debut match against Deportivo La Coruña 1-0 on August 31, 2003 . In his first season in 2003/04 he scored 16 times in 38 games for Zaragoza. He and his team won the 2004 cup final against Real Madrid, where he himself was successful as a goalscorer.

Valencia CF

In 2005 Villa moved to Valencia CF for twelve million euros and was the second top scorer in the league with 24 goals in the 2004/2005 season (behind Samuel Eto'o with 25 goals).

He took part in the 2005 UI Cup with Valencia , where he made it 1-0 in his second game for Valencia against AA Gent . Villa extended his contract to 2013 in March 2006. His popularity with the fans of Valencia CF continued to grow with his success. " Villa Maravilla" ("Villa, the miracle") shouts were often heard at home games .

In the winter of 2006 transfer rumors became loud. Allegedly, the English Premiere League club FC Chelsea should have shown interest in the Spanish striker. However, no transfer talks were officially held. Villa himself was negative about moving to England. In August 2008, Valencia CF rejected an offer from Real Madrid of 47 million euros. Club president Vicente Soriano promised fans that despite all financial problems, the club would not sell its best players. On August 27, 2008, Villa's annual salary was increased to three million euros. To this end, Villa signed a new contract until 2014. The rejection of the aforementioned million-dollar offers made it clear that Villas is close to his association.
