Digital Radio Southwest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Digital Radio Südwest GmbH (DRS) plans, implements and operates the terrestrial digital broadcast transmitter networks in the DAB standard in Baden-Wuerttemberg (until December 2014 Rheinland-Pfalz ). It is a joint venture between Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and Media Broadcast and is based in Stuttgart .

After the financial support from the State Office for Communication expired, all private program providers stopped digital terrestrial broadcasting of their programs in Baden-Württemberg in mid-2007.

Since the beginning of 2012, programs from private providers have been broadcast on the new state-wide channels 11B (Baden-Württemberg) and 11A (Rhineland-Palatinate) (previously 12B and 12A) in addition to the SWR programs. Since December 1, 2014, with the exception of SWR4 Radio Stuttgart, only private programs have been broadcast in the Mux of Digital Radio Südwest in Baden-Württemberg. The SWR programs switched to the self-operated Muxe 8D and 9D. The further distribution of SWR4 Radio Stuttgart in the Mux of Digital Radio Südwest results from the fact that in the course of the activation of the SWR4 regional versions on December 8, 2014 there was no more capacity for this regional version in the own Muxes.

In December 2014, SWR took over network operation in Rhineland-Palatinate (11A) from Digital Radio Südwest. For the only private program, big FM Worldbeats , capacities will continue to be made available by the SWR.
