Localization of Baden-Württemberg in Germany

The transmitter Oberböhringen is a transmitter of the Südwestrundfunk (formerly the Süddeutscher Rundfunk ) for broadcasting radio programs.

Location

The transmitter is located in the Bad Überking district of Oberböhringen , four kilometers west of the city center of Geislingen an der Steige . The main supply areas are the city of Geislingen and the upper and middle Filstal , as these are only insufficiently covered by the basic network transmitters in Stuttgart and Aalen.

The location was put into operation in 1951 for the second SDR radio program, followed by the first SDR radio program on VHF in 1954 . The television filler for the first television program was set up in 1975 as a supplement to an existing converter at the foot of the Tegelberg. Private radio broadcasters have been using the 105.4 MHz frequency from the Oberböhringen location since 1994.

A 50 meter high, free-standing concrete mast is now used as the antenna carrier. Analog television broadcasting was discontinued in November 2008.

The TV broadcast, which had been using the old DVB-T technology as a filler channel since October 2009 , was completely discontinued on October 24, 2018 due to the nationwide conversion of aerial television to DVB-T2. Since the DVB-T2 technology provides an overall improved supply performance, no conversion was made at the Oberböhringen location. The TV supply is taken over by the basic network transmitter Aalen , which has been converted to DVB-T2 .
