Doingt ( Picard : doint) is a French municipality with 1427 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France in northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton of Péronne and is part of the Communauté de communes de la Haute Somme .

The municipality is located in the southeast of the arrondissement capital (sous-préfecture) Péronne on the departmental roads D937 and D199. In the west, the municipality stretches to the Somme river , into which the Cologne flows, in the north it adjoins Péronne with the district of Flamicourt. In Flamicourt there was a station on the abandoned railway line from Saint-Just-en-Chaussée to Douai.

history

The community was completely destroyed in the First World War. She was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914–1918.

Attractions

  • There is a military cemetery for fallen soldiers from the British Empire near Doingt.
  • The Pierre de Gargantua or Finger des Gargantua is a 4 m high menhir with a circumference of 3 m. It lies between the D937 and the Bach Cologne and has been classified as a Monument historique since 1840 .
