Elisabeta Lipă , née Elisabeta Oleniuc , (born October 26, 1964 in Siret ) is a former Romanian rower . She is considered the most successful rower in the world.

She was five times Olympic champion:

In 1988 she won silver in double sculls and bronze in double sculls . In 1992 she won not only the gold medal in single but also silver in double scull. In addition, she has won numerous world championship titles and medals, such as the one in 1989. At the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 she was the flag bearer of the Romanian team at the opening ceremony.

In 2008, Elisabeta Lipă was awarded the Thomas Keller Medal by the FISA World Rowing Federation .

She lives in Bucharest , is married and has a daughter. Since March 14, 2009, Elisabeta Lipă has been the President of the Romanian Rowing Association and, since March 26, 2009, she has also been the President of Dinamo Bucharest .

From November 2015 to January 2017 she was minister of youth and sport in the Cioloș cabinet .

Awards

Elisabeta Lipă was awarded the Order of Loyalty to the rank of commander in 2000. In August 2008 she received the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" 1st class from President Traian Băsescu . In the same year she was made an honorary citizen of her hometown Siret.
