Enrico Toccacelo (born December 14, 1978 in Rome ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Career

Toccacelo began his karting career at the age of nine . In 1996 he switched to formula racing in the Italian Formula Campus, where he started a year later. This was followed by two years in the Italian Formula 3 championship , in 1998 he finished eleventh and in 1999 third. In 2000 Toccacelo started in the German Formula 3 championship and reached seventh place in the overall classification.

It first started in various racing series, Toccacelo participated in the last four races of the 2001 season of Formula 3000 in part. He moved as a teammate from Giorgio Pantano to Team Astromega and finished 30th in the championship without scoring any points. In 2002 Toccacelo switched to Coloni F3000 together with Pantano . Toccacelo won the race in Budapest and was ninth in the overall standings. Also in 2003 launched Toccacelo in Formula 3000. He ran this year for Super Nova Racing and was able to race at the Nurburgring win. In the end, he finished sixth in the overall ranking. He also drove two races in the World Series by Nissan . In 2004 Toccacelo started in Formula 3000 for the fourth year and won the race at the Nürburgring again with BCN Competición . Toccacelo secured the runner-up title behind his compatriot Vitantonio Liuzzi thanks to seven podium places in ten races .

After Formula 3000 had been discontinued and he had not received a cockpit in its successor series GP2 , Toccacelo started in the World Series by Renault, the former World Series by Nissan. After half the season, Toccacelo switched to the Minardi Formula 1 racing team as a test driver . In the overall standings of the World Series by Renault, he finished twelfth overall with a win. In 2006 he started again in the World Series by Renault and took part in six races. A podium placement was denied to the Italian and he finished 26th in the championship at the end of the season. In 2007 he took part in six races of the FIA GT Championship , which he finished in 24th place overall. In addition, from 2005 to 2008 he competed in a total of 40 races in the A1 Grand Prix and won one race for himself. In 2008 he took part in ten Superleague Formula races. He started six races for the AS Roma team and four races for the Borussia Dortmund team. His best finish was a second place.

Toccacelo has not competed in any racing series since 2009.
