Eppinghofen is an inner-city district of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Mülheim district of Altstadt II . Until its incorporation in 1878, Eppinghofen was a municipality in what was then the district of Mülheim an der Ruhr .
geography
Eppinghofen essentially comprises that part of Mülheim's inner city, which is bounded in the south by the Duisburg – Dortmund railway line and in the north by Aktienstraße . The business center of Eppinghofen is located on Eppinghofer Straße . The eastern part of Eppinghofen is known as the Dichterviertel .
history
The first written mention of Eppinghofen comes from the year 1250. The place was originally a scattered agricultural settlement that was overbuilt in the course of the 19th century. The first significant industrial enterprise was in 1811 a mechanical workshop was founded, from which today's Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte emerged.
In the 19th century, Eppinghofen was initially a rural community in the Mülheim-Land mayor . This belonged to the district of Duisburg until 1874 and since then to the district of Mülheim an der Ruhr. On April 1, 1878, Eppinghofen was incorporated into the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr.
