Speldorf is a district of the independent North Rhine-Westphalian city of Mülheim an der Ruhr .
history
Speldorf is first mentioned in 1093 as Spelthorpe in a Werden document. In the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, today's district belonged to the Broich rule , northern parts of the Ruhr to the Styrum rule . At that time lived here mostly farmers and because of the large tree population and boards were for the construction of skating sawn and charcoal charred . In the 15th century Speldorf had 800 inhabitants.
location
The district is located on the historic Hellweg in the Linksruhr district. It borders east and south on Broich , west on the Duisburg districts Neudorf and Duissern and in the north, on the other side of the Ruhr on Styrum and the Oberhausen district of Alstaden . At the Ruhr crossing to Duisburg, the lowest point in the Mülheim urban area is 26.0 m above sea level . There is a connection with Duisburg and Mülheim by the tram line 901 of the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft .
Speldorf is a preferred residential area and is predominantly characterized by middle-class one and two-family houses. On the southern outskirts, part of the "Uhlenhorst" residential area is one of the city's most upscale residential areas in Speldorf.
Attractions
Speldorf is home to the Rhine-Ruhr port , the Raffelberg hydropower station , the Mülheim racing club, the Theater an der Ruhr and the Raffelberg saltwater pool with Raffelbergpark in Gut Raffelberg .
Across Duisburg lies the Broich-Speldorfer Forest and the Duisburg City Forest, an approximately 30 km² large contiguous forest area.
