Erik Altorfer

Erik Altorfer (* 1966 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss director and dramaturge for theater and radio plays .

Life

Erik Altorfer studied German and English at the University of Zurich . After his first theater work in the independent scene in London, he worked as an assistant director (e.g. for Peter Palitzsch ) at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . He was a founding member of the Zurich art performance collective Gruppe Engel (1996–1998).

Altorfer has worked as a freelance director and dramaturge since 1997. a. at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , Schauspielhaus Graz , Thalia Theater Hamburg , Stadttheater Bern , Schauspielhaus Zürich and Theater Neumarkt . From 2000 to 2002 and 2003–2014 he was the artistic director of the author support project Dramenprozessor. Since 2001 Altorfer has been working as a radio play director (with the composer Martin Schütz, among others ) for Deutschlandfunk Kultur , WDR and Radio SRF 2 Kultur . He conceived international author projects at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, at the Steirischer Herbst in Graz, at the Stadttheater Bern and for the Argentine independence celebrations (Bicentenario) in Buenos Aires. Altorfer has led writing workshops in Egypt, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia and Lebanon. 2006–2015 he was a member of the Theater Commission of the City of Zurich .

He has been a theater expert for Pro Helvetia in Cairo since 2014 .

Since 2015 he has been leading writing-theater projects together with the author Mudar Alhaggi .

Erik Altorfer teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and at the Zurich University of Education (PHZH).
