Erwin van de Looi (born February 25, 1972 in Huissen ) is a former Dutch football player and coach .
Player career
Van de Looi started playing football in his hometown at RKHVV Huissen and later moved to the youth team of Vitesse Arnheim . After a season with the Dutch second division club BVV Den Bosch , he returned to Vitesse Arnheim and played over 100 games in the Vitesse jersey. In 1997, he switched to league rivals NAC Breda . During the winter break of the 1999/2000 season, van de Looi went to Germany to join the Stuttgarter Kickers . However, he returned to the Netherlands at the end of the season and ended his active career after an injury at FC Groningen .
Coaching career
From 2005 to 2016 van der Looi was coach of the U-19s at FC Groningen, head coach of the second team, assistant coach of the professional team as well as the main coach of the professionals. For the 2016/17 season he took over the position of head coach at Willem II Tilburg . In his first season with the club he managed to stay up; on March 8, 2018 van der Looi resigned from his post after pressure from the club's own supporters.
In August 2018 he was appointed the new coach of the Dutch U-21 national team by the Dutch Football Association .
