Euquisi ( Eukisi ) is an East Timorese suco in the Lautém administrative office ( Lautém municipality ).

Euquisi is on the north coast of Timor on the Strait of Wetar . In the west it borders on the Suco Ililai , in the east on the Suco Daudere . In the south lies the administrative office of Luro with its sucos Afabubu and Wairoque . The border with Ililai is formed by the Laivai river until shortly before its mouth the border swings to the east. About halfway along the border, the river changes its name to Dasidara . A tributary of the Laivai, the Abuti, forms the border to the Suco Wairoque . The Buiguira River forms the border with Daudere.

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Euquisi had an area of 35.66 km². Now there are 34.03 km², because the border to Suco Ililai, which previously ran across the Ililai settlement center , was moved a little to the southeast. The entire village now, including the districts of Barliu and Borubatu ( Barubatu ), belongs to the Suco Ililai. On the bank of the Dasidara in the north lies the village of Taleta and on the coast the village of Barleo . Other settlements are in the south of the Sucos. There is a primary school in Barleo. The northern coastal road, which is one of the most important transport links in the country, also runs along the sea here. In the south the mountains reach a height of 476 m .

In Euquisi there are the three Aldeias Barliu (Barleo) , Borubatu and Vaniria ( Waniria ). In the settlement center Ililai, which belongs to the settlement center of the same name, there are three districts with these names.

Residents

The Suco has 931 inhabitants (2015), of which 472 are men and 459 women. The population density is 27.4 inhabitants / km². There are 187 households in the Suco. Over 99% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. A small minority speaks Sa'ane .

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Macario dos Santos Pereira elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected.
