The European route 49 is a European route in Central Europe . With a length of 740 km, it is one of the shorter trunk roads in this category. It runs from northwest to southeast from Magdeburg in Germany via the Czech Republic to Vienna in Austria.

Germany

The Europastraße 49 starts at the Magdeburg junction and then follows the federal motorway 14 towards the south. It leads past Halle and changes at the Schkeuditzer Kreuz , about 15 kilometers west of Leipzig , to the federal motorway 9 heading south. In this section it runs parallel to the European route 51 .

From the Schleiz exit , Europastraße 49 follows the federal road 282 eastwards to Plauen , from there it follows the federal road 92 southwards via Oelsnitz / Vogtl. and Bad Brambach to the Czech border.

Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, the European route 49 begins at the border near the village of Vojtanov and follows the course of the 1st order road Silnice I / 21 to Cheb . From there it follows the Dálnice 6 via Sokolov to Karlsbad . In this section it runs parallel to the European route 48 .

From Karlovy Vary on, European route 49 follows Silnice I / 20 in a southerly direction via Pilsen and Písek to Budweis . There it leads in the urban area briefly over the Silnice I / 3 and the European route 55 , before it leads over the Silnice I / 34 to Třeboň . There it follows the Silnice I / 24 to the Austrian border.

Austria

The Europastraße 49 follows the Waldviertler Straße (B2) from the border near Neu-Nagelberg via Schrems to Horn . From there it follows the Horner Straße (B4) to Stockerau . From there it follows the Donauufer Autobahn (A22) in Vienna to the Kaisermühlen junction and then the Südosttangente Wien (A23) autobahn to the Prater junction . On the A22 and the A23 it runs together with the European route 59 .
