The Evangelische Mittelschule Schiers (EMS) is a grammar school in Schiers , which leads to the Matura and thus to general university entrance qualifications at Swiss universities. The school offer includes: short and long-term high school with bilingual German / English Matura, music high school, technical secondary school with specialist Matura, preliminary course for the teacher training college.
history
The school was founded in 1837 as a teacher training college . Today it is one of six private secondary schools in the Canton of Graubünden, alongside the Bündner Kantonsschule . Over time, the school profile was expanded to include the university entrance qualification, the name was changed to Evangelische Lehranstalt (ELA) in 1959 by director Hans Peter Jaeger to the name that is valid today. In addition to pupils from the local area, for whom the school takes on the role of a public school with cantonal funding, the school has had a boarding school since it was founded , which was run by pupils from other cantons (previously also for teacher training for cantons that did not have their own teacher training college) and is visited abroad. In 2015 the boarding school was closed due to a lack of boarding students. Since then, however, the school has been arranging host families and renting apartments for shared apartments.
After teacher training in Switzerland was relocated to colleges of education at the turn of the 20th to the 21st century , the school had to look for new fields of activity. The former diploma middle school was converted into a technical middle school.
