The Fencing World Championships 2011 took place from October 8th to 16th, 2011 in the Sicilian city of Catania . The venue was chosen on November 24, 2009 by the International Fencing Federation (FIE). The application from Italy prevailed against candidates from Budapest (Hungary) and Tianjin (China).

Italy hosted the World Fencing Championships for the fifth time after 1955 , 1961 , 1982 and 2006 . The program consisted of three individual and three team competitions for women and men.

Competitions and schedule

The program included competitions in the swords, foils and sabers, divided into individual and teams as well as women and men. Therefore 12 gold and 12 silver medals were awarded. Since the third place in the individual is not fought, in the team competitions it is, there are divided places and thus 18 bronze medals.
