The Ferrari 488 (internal identification F142M ) is a mid-engine sports car made by the Italian manufacturer Ferrari . It is the successor to the Ferrari 458 and was presented to the public for the first time at the 85th Geneva Motor Show in early March 2015 . After the California T, it is the second Ferrari sports car with a turbocharged engine since production of the F40 ended in 1992. Series production started in April 2015. In autumn 2015, the model series was expanded to include the 488 Spider Cabriolet . The starting price for the Coupé is 215,683 euros and for the Spider 228,368 euros.

At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018, Ferrari presented the 488 Pista, a performance variant based on the 488 GTB.

The successor model Ferrari F8 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.

Model name

The model designation 488 is derived from the displacement of a single cylinder. Such a nomenclature was common in the brand's V12 street models until the 1980s. With the 488, Ferrari used it for the first time in an eight-cylinder model. The GTB supplement used in the Coupé stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta .

technology

The GTB 488 is of a longitudinally installed charged eight-cylinder - V - gasoline engine driven at 90 ° cylinder bank angle. The two IHI - twin scroll chargers are connected in parallel ( biturbo ), the charge air is cooled and the fuel is injected directly into the cylinders . The engine has four overhead camshafts that operate 4 valves per cylinder. The camshaft drive is on the power delivery side. With a displacement of 3.9 liters, the engine has an output of 492 kW (670 hp) at 8000 rpm, which is a displacement of 126 kW / l (171.7 hp / l) and the maximum torque of 760 Nm is available at 3000 rpm . This enables the vehicle to reach a top speed of over 330 km / h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.0 seconds and from 0 to 200 km / h in 8.3 seconds. The vehicle meets the EU6 emissions standard.

A seven-speed dual clutch transmission transfers the power to the rear wheels.

The drift angle control used for the first time in the 458 Speciale has been retuned for the 488 GTB and now also controls the electronic differential gear and adjusts the damping of the magnetorheological shock absorbers . The Side Slip Angle Control System 2 (SSC2) detects by evaluating (among other things) the driving time and drift angle and accelerator pedal position, whether the driver is on corner exit oversteer would accelerate out and makes this driving condition despite activated dynamics control to.

The aerodynamic properties have been significantly improved compared to the previous model, among other things the downforce could be increased by 50 percent through large cooling air outlets in the radiator hood, active flaps on the rear of the vehicle and turbulators on the underbody.

488 pista

Ferrari presented the 488 Pista at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018 . With an output of 530 kW (720 hp), it is the most powerful variant of the series. The 3.9-liter turbo engine already known from the GTB and the Spider is used . The 488 Pista should accelerate to 100 km / h in 2.85 seconds and reach a top speed of over 340 km / h. The previous models already had performance variants with the 360 Challenge Stradale , the 430 Scuderia and the 458 Speciale .

In August 2018 Ferrari presented the convertible version 488 Pista Spider at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance . It is also Ferrari's 50th convertible model.
