Football League First Division 1957/58

The Football League First Division 1958/59 was the 60th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 23, 1958 and ended on May 4, 1959.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers won the third English championship in their club history by six points ahead of Manchester United and defended the title from the previous year. Both newly promoted West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers were able to hold the class; instead Aston Villa and Portsmouth FC had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham FC .

A total of 515 players were used, with West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United and Burnley FC with 20 the fewest and Newcastle United with 29 the most players in league games. 126 newcomers opposed 132 footballers who last came into play in the 1958/59 season. 13 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

    The Wolverhampton Wanderers' championship team

The following table lists all players who were used in a league game for the Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 1958/59 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
