St. Louis Catholic Church was built in 1860 and was the first religious building in Fort Kent. Due to the strong growth of the local parish, the previous building was no longer sufficient, was demolished and replaced by a larger church building, consecrated in 1882. This too only lasted a few years until it fell victim to a fire in 1907. Just two years later, the construction of a new church building in Gothic style began, which was completed in 1911. In 1951, when the building was being renovated, colored glass lancet windows were installed to represent St. Louis, the patron saint of the church.
