Frédéric Magné (born February 5, 1969 in Tours ) is a French cycling trainer , former track cyclist , and seven-time world champion. He was the dominant French short-term specialist in the 1990s.

Athletic career

In 1985, Frédéric Magné was the first French sprint champion as a junior , and again in 1987, achieving better times than the master in the men's class, Philippe Boyer . Because of this performance he was nominated by national coach Daniel Morelon for the 1987 in Vienna .

There Magné achieved his first international success at the age of 18, when he became world champion on the tandem for the first time together with the more experienced driver Fabrice Colas ; in the sprint he was tenth. The two drivers were able to repeat this success three more times, in 1988 , 1989 and 1995 . Magné was also able to win the Keirin world title three times ( 1995 , 1997 and 2000 ). Seven times he was French champion in Keirin and in the sprint . He started at four Olympic Games ( 1988 , 1992 , 1996 and 2000 ), but where he could not win any medals. In 1996 in Atlanta he finished sixth as well as in 2000 in Sydney in the Keirin.

After the World Railroad Championships in Manchester in 2000 , Magné ended his active career.

Professional

From 2006 to 2009 Magné worked as a national coach for the Japanese Cycling Federation. From 2009 he was a trainer at the “World Cycling Center” of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in Aigle , later he became “Development Director” and managing director. As such, he looked after talented cyclists from countries with poor sports infrastructure who train in Aigle at the invitation of the UCI. In 2019 he also acted as team manager of the WCC team .

In November 2019, Magné was dismissed from the UCI without notice. The reasons given were “systematic bullying , violent and manipulative behavior and threats”. He also ignored the dietary rules of Islamic athletes, assigned them worse material than other athletes, discriminated against them and told them: "Go back to Africa". He also requested private services from subordinates while he himself went on trips with his friend, a colleague, during working hours. Frédéric Magné's lawyer and himself in his interview rejected these allegations as untrue; it is an intrigue . In January 2020 he was presented in Jakarta as an advisor to the Indonesian Cycling Association.
