Franz-Peter Hofmeister

Franz-Peter Hofmeister (born August 5, 1951 in Kerpen ) is a former German athlete and Olympic medalist who - starting for the Federal Republic - was successful in the 1970s as a sprinter in the 100 , 200 and 400 meter races .

Life

Hofmeister recorded his first sporting successes when he was still a student at the modern language high school in the district town of Bergheim . After graduating from high school, he began studying business administration at the University of Cologne .

Because of a tendon damage, he was the fastest German sprinter at the time and was unable to take part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . He won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and was double European champion in 1978. Federal President Karl Carstens awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf.

Franz-Peter Hofmeister initially belonged to the Jugend 07 Bergheim club , and after 1974 to SV 04 Bayer Leverkusen , where he trained with Bernd Knut. In his playing days he was 1.85 m tall and weighed 71 kg. From 1976 to 1981 Hofmeister was German indoor champion with the 4 x 400 meter relay .

After completing his studies, he found a job with the chemical company Bayer AG in Leverkusen.
