Grupo de Artistas de Vanguardia (founded around 1960 in Rio de Janeiro ) is an Argentinean avant-garde - Collective .

Grupo de Artistas de Vanguardia is an association of visual artists, journalists and sociologists in Rosario and Buenos Aires who grapple with the discrepancy between real life and politics. Among the members, Graciela Carnevale , León Ferrari , Roberto Jacoby and Norberto Puzzolo stand out. In their manifesto for Tucumán Arde ( Tucumán Burning , 1968) it says: “The collective work done is based on the present situation in Argentina, which becomes more radical in one of its poorest provinces, Tucumán, which has been subjected to a long tradition of underdevelopment and economic oppression./The collective work is justified by the current situation in Argentina, which is particularly pronounced in one of the poorest regions, Tucumán, which has been subject to a long tradition of underdevelopment and oppression ”.

Grupo de Artistas de Vanguardia traveled to the province of Tucumán in 1968 to appear in public with critical actions. The reason for the action was the impoverishment of the population as a result of the shutdown of the sugar industry under the regime of Juan Carlos Onganía . (Tucumán is the world's largest growing area for lemons). The artists researched the background, interviewed residents, filmed and photographed the situation on site. They put the results together in an exhibition that was closed by the police. They then developed a media campaign against government propaganda . Graciela Carnevale, formerly a member of the Tucuman Arde group , collected photos and text material from this campaign. The documentation Archivo Tucumán Arde was on display on several walls in the Museum Fridericianum for documenta 12 .
