Hans Dichgans

Hans Hermann Dichgans (born May 16, 1907 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † March 21, 1980 in Düsseldorf ) was a German lawyer, manager and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Dichgans was born the son of a pharmacist. After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Elberfeld , he began studying law in Freiburg im Breisgau , Paris and Bonn , which he completed with both state law exams. In Freiburg he became an active member of the Catholic student association Flamberg im KV , a student association which largely rejected student customs. Dichgans doctorate in 1929 for Dr. jur. and later joined the Reich Service as an official. From 1933 he worked for Osthilfe in Stettin and from 1934 to 1937 he was employed by the Reichsbahndirektion Wuppertal . He then moved to Berlin and from 1938 to 1945, as Ministerialrat, he was head of the iron department at the Reich Commissioner for Pricing , Josef Wagner and, from 1942, Hans Fischböck .

After the Second World War , Dichgans worked for auditors in Cologne from 1946 to 1948 and then worked for the Waldhof pulp factory in Wiesbaden until 1950 . In 1951/52 he was director of the Aug. Klönne steel construction company in Dortmund , changed to a manager in the organization of the steel industry in 1953 and worked from 1955 to 1973 in the management of the Iron and Steel Industry Association in Düsseldorf. 1974/75 he acted as managing director of the BDI . Dichgans remained connected to the KV all his life, in 1965 he gave a much-noticed lecture on “University Constitution and Educational Reform” at its representatives' meeting in Hanover.

Political party

Dichgans joined the NSDAP and the SS in 1933 . In 1935 he resigned from the SS and from then on was considered politically unreliable. The party leadership prevented a further promotion in the Reichsbahn, so that he then left. In 1954 he became a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and was chairman of the CDU district group Lohausen-Stockum in Düsseldorf from 1955.

MP

Dichgans was a member of the German Bundestag from October 17, 1961 to September 22, 1972 and was always elected from the CDU state list in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1957 to 1962 and from 1972 to 1978 he was a member of the Advisory Committee of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). From 1961 to 1970 he was delegated to the European Parliament .
