Heather Mary Stanning , OBE (born January 26, 1985 in Yeovil , Somerset ) is a former British rower . She was Olympic champion in 2012 and 2016 in a pair without a tax woman .

Career

Stanning grew up as the daughter of members of the British Navy in Scotland. She herself belongs to the Royal Artillery, which she released in 2010 for training with a view to the 2012 Olympic Games.

Together with Olivia Whitlam, Stanning won the 2007 U23 World Championships . In 2009, Stanning reached seventh place in eighth at the European Championships . Since 2010 she starts together with Helen Glover in twos without. In the 2010 World Cup season, the two achieved fifth place in Munich as their best result, and at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand they both won the silver medal behind New Zealanders Rebecca Scown and Juliette Haigh . In 2011, Glover and Stanning won the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne, and at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled they again received silver behind Scown and Haigh.

In 2012, Glover and Stanning were the first to cross the finish line in all three World Cup regattas and they also won the Olympic final in front of their home crowd in front of the boats from Australia and New Zealand. They won the first gold medal for the British team at the Olympic Games in London and the first ever Olympic gold medal for British rowers.

After the 2012 Olympics, Stanning paused in 2013. In 2014, she returned to the two-man. Stanning and Glover won the title at the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam and the following year at the 2015 European Championships in Poznan and at the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette . Glover and Stanning started the 2016 Olympic season with a victory at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel . The pair continued their winning streak at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and won their second Olympic gold medal.

At the end of 2012, Heather Stanning was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire .
